Understanding Route Surfaces

Stockholm offers a mix of paved paths, shared pedestrian-cyclist lanes, and occasional gravel sections in park areas. We classify each ride by its predominant surface type.

Paved Urban

Smooth asphalt through city streets and dedicated cycle lanes. Standard road or hybrid bicycles work well.

Park Paths

Mixed surfaces through green areas like Djurgården. Occasional gravel or compacted dirt sections.

Waterfront

Paved promenades along harbors and canals. Can be exposed to wind; dress in layers during cooler months.

Elevated Sections

Routes with notable climbs, primarily in northern suburbs. Detailed in individual ride descriptions.

Group Ride Safety Guidelines

Participant safety is a shared responsibility. We outline clear expectations before every ride so that everyone understands their role within the group.

  • Wear a properly fitted helmet and use front and rear lights during low-light conditions.
  • Maintain predictable riding behavior and communicate hazards verbally to riders behind you.
  • Carry a basic repair kit including a spare tube, tire levers, and a portable pump.
  • Follow all local traffic regulations and respect pedestrian right-of-way on shared paths.

Pre-Ride Check

Inspect tire pressure, brake function, and chain lubrication before each outing. Our equipment checklist is available through our educational products.

Weather Policy

Rides may be rescheduled during severe weather. Participants receive notification at least four hours before the scheduled departure time.
